Q&As

Why did you choose to study in Paris?

Paris is a city that had continually appeared and reappeared in my life. From my interests in art and fashion to books I've read and enjoyed, all arrows were pointed to Paris. I knew that one day I had to make it, but nothing was more perfect than the framework the Paris program had to make my time in Paris all that I imagined and more!

How did studying away support your academic growth?

From history to gardening, the Paris curriculum pushed me to try new methods of doing academic work. Doing work became much more than typing away on a computer in library, every step in the city was work. The city as classroom has expanded my horizon on the future of my academic progress.

What did you learn about yourself during your study away experience, especially through any challenges or major cultural adjustments?

Silence is a priority. In the rapid pace of the city finding peaceful oases for a slow breath was essential. I never thought that I needed moments of nothing- I was always fueled by doing more. But the stillness turned out to be essential to keep me going and not only that, but it was also something to look forward to and became less scary and more and more necessary for me to perform better as a human being.

Also, I love reading? Parisian metro reading is a serious culture!

Briefly describe a typical day and your favorite part of daily life in your program location.

Wake up, DRESS UP, speedwalk to the 7 metro [do HW on the metro], speed walk to class (10:00).

Lunch out (around noon) [maybe at a park?], walk around.

Back to class till 5, head out and do something fun on the way to dinner.

[Every minute onwards is my favorite each day.]

Walk a little, write a little, sip a little, shop a little, lie on the grass somewhere. [Maybe hit up a museum?]

Spend time with friends.

Take the metro back home.

Scroll in bed for a bit. [Maybe find a little spot to visit the next day?]

REST.

If applicable, how did participating in an internship, volunteership or experiential-based project help you grow professionally? What specific skills did you gain?

N/A.

What was the most essential item you took with you on the program?

A book.

What advice would you give students who are considering studying away?

Go abroad for YOU and take the courses that matter to YOU and do the things that will impact YOUR life in ways that matter to YOU.
