OSPPARIS TBD: The Critical 2027 Presidential Election in France

As in the United States, the President and presidential elections are at the heart of the political system in France.  Spring quarter of 2027 will coincide with a presidential campaign and election widely considered as potentially the most important one of the 5thRepublic. Through reading and watching the coverage of the campaign, we will assess the stakes of this crucial election, the candidates and their strategies, key issues and electoral behavior.  We will also explore the role of political parties, the media, the entourages of candidates and opinion polls in a comparative perspective with the US.  This unique presidential election promises to be as consequential as it will be fascinating.  This class presents a unique opportunity to better understand the differences between French and American presidential elections and political culture.
